Hearing aids and hearing tests near Almuñécar and La Herradura
If you live in Almuñécar or La Herradura, Nerja is the next town along: 20 to 25 minutes on the motorway, and less from La Herradura. That's where you'll find us, at Calle Pintada 58. We're a small family practice run by Yolanda, an audiologist with more than 20 years' experience, and her son, Pablo. We'll see you in English or Spanish, and we won't rush you.
Does any of this sound familiar?
- On a busy seafront terrace or at a beach bar, you lose the thread of the conversation.
- Phone calls are harder than they used to be, or you put them on speaker to follow them.
- People at home keep asking you to turn the TV down.
If two or more of those ring true, a hearing test is worth doing. It's free, takes about 20 minutes and you're under no obligation. And if it turns out you don't need a hearing aid, we'll tell you that too.
Why it's worth the trip to Nerja
If you already have a hearing centre you trust near home, that's great. If you'd like a second opinion, someone who speaks English, or a check-up for a hearing aid you brought from abroad, this is what you'll find here:
- No rush. There are just two of us, mother and son, and we take as long as you need. We explain your results in plain English and answer all your questions.
- English and Spanish. Nothing gets lost in translation, and Spanish-speaking friends or family are just as welcome to come along.
- Any brand. We clean, check and adjust hearing aids of any make, including ones bought in the UK. We tell you the price before we touch anything.
- Walk-ins welcome. No appointment needed, Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 13:30. A quick message beforehand helps, so we know to expect you.
- No pressure. The test is free and, if you do need a hearing aid, you try it for a few days before deciding.

What we do
- Free hearing test: about 20 minutes, no obligation, with the results explained in plain English.
- Hearing aids on trial: you wear them for a few days in your everyday life before deciding anything. We mainly work with Phonak, Signia and ReSound.
- Cleaning, check-ups and fault diagnosis for hearing aids of any brand: we tell you what's wrong, what your options are and the price before we start.
- Hearing aid sounding weak because of wax: we clean it and check it. Wax in the ear itself needs to be removed by your GP or an ENT specialist.
- Batteries, chargers and protective earplugs. If you need something specific for your model, ask us first and we'll tell you whether we have it.
Almuñécar and La Herradura: neighbours from all over
In the municipality of Almuñécar, which includes La Herradura, around one in five residents is a foreign national: 5,673 out of 28,011 in 2025, according to the Andalusian Institute of Statistics and Cartography. The largest group is British, and there are neighbours from plenty of other countries too.
If you brought your hearing aids with you from abroad, that's no problem: we check hearing aids of any make, wherever they were bought, the UK included. One honest caveat: if a part or accessory isn't sold in Spain, we may not be able to get it, and we'll tell you so from the start. If yours came from the NHS or a UK shop, our guide to NHS and UK hearing aids in Spain explains what we can and can't do.
Getting here from Almuñécar and La Herradura
- By car: the A-7 motorway is the quickest way. It's about 24 km from Almuñécar town centre to Nerja, which takes 20 to 25 minutes, and about 19 km from La Herradura, which takes under 20 minutes. You can also take the N-340, the old coast road, but it's slower.
- By bus: Alsa runs several buses a day from Almuñécar to Nerja, with departures from La Herradura as well. The journey usually takes around half an hour from Almuñécar and about 20 minutes from La Herradura. In Nerja the bus stops on Avenida de Pescia, a few steps from the top of Calle Pintada: walk down the street and you'll reach number 58 in about five minutes (roughly 400 metres).
A weekday example: catch the 10:30 from Almuñécar (or the 10:40 from La Herradura), arrive in Nerja at about 11:00, spend around 20 minutes on your hearing test, and catch the 12:30 back, which calls at La Herradura and gets to Almuñécar at about 13:00. These are indicative times from October 2026 and they can change, so check the Alsa website before you set off.
