Hearing aids and hearing tests near Frigiliana
If you live in Frigiliana, in the village or out in the campo, looking after your hearing just means popping down to Nerja: about 15 minutes by car, or a short bus ride, to Calle Pintada 58 in the town centre. We're a small family practice, mother and son, and we take our time with you.
Does any of this sound familiar?
Three tell-tale signs:
- Your family tell you the TV is too loud.
- On a busy terrace, at the Three Cultures Festival or over Sunday lunch, you lose track of the conversation.
- You can hear people talking but can't always make out the words, especially when there's background noise.
If two or more ring a bell, a hearing test is worth doing. It's free, takes about 20 minutes and there's no obligation. And if you don't need a hearing aid, we'll tell you straight.
What we do
- Free hearing test: about 20 minutes, no obligation, and we'll talk you through the results without any jargon.
- Hearing aids on trial: take them home for a few days and wear them in your normal routine before you decide anything. We work mainly with Phonak, Signia and ReSound.
- Cleaning, check-ups and fault-finding for hearing aids of any brand, plus adjustments if they don't sound right any more. We'll give you a clear price before we touch anything.
- Hearing aid sounding weak because of wax: we clean it and check it. Wax in the ear itself is a job for your GP (médico de cabecera) or an ENT doctor, not for us.
- Batteries, chargers and protective earplugs: worth picking up while you're in town.
Brought your hearing aid over from the UK?
More than a third of Frigiliana's registered residents are foreign nationals (1,228 out of 3,459), and Britons are the largest group among them, at 42.8%, according to 2025 figures from Andalusia's official statistics institute (IECA) (opens in a new tab). Some brought their hearing aid with them, and that's absolutely fine: we'll look at any make of hearing aid, whether it came from the high street or the NHS back home. One honest caveat: if a part or accessory isn't sold in Spain, we may not be able to get hold of it, and we'll tell you so from the outset.
We speak English as well as Spanish, so you can explain everything in your own words, and you're welcome to bring your partner or a friend along.
Getting to Nerja from Frigiliana
- By car: about 15 minutes down the MA-5105 to the centre of Nerja.
- By bus: there's a regular bus between Frigiliana and Nerja, and it's a short ride. In Nerja it stops on Avenida Ciudad de Pescia, about 400 metres from us, which is roughly a six-minute walk.
On weekday mornings, when we're open, the 10:00, 11:00 and 12:00 buses from Frigiliana fit in nicely, and there are buses back from Nerja at 10:30, 11:30, 12:30 and 13:30. After the 13:30 the next one isn't until 15:40, so if you come on the 12:00, let us know and we'll keep an eye on the time. We're closed at weekends, and bank holidays have a different bus timetable.
For example: catch the 10:00, have your test (it takes around 20 minutes) and you can be on the 11:30 home, with time for a coffee first. Times can change, so check the latest timetable on the Frigiliana town hall website (opens in a new tab) before you set off (timetable checked on 23 October 2026).
